Bible Road Trip; Review and Sale

Today I want to show you around the Bible curriculum that my kids and I will be using this school year. It’s called Bible Road Trip, written by Danika Cooley. We’re specifically using year one but I think all three years follow the same set-up.

I can’t wait to tell you why I’m excited about this program, but first I really want to tell you a little bit about why Danika wrote it.

In the teacher’s manual (that is quite extensive and helpful) Danika explains…

“…It wasn’t until I read the Bible from beginning to end that I really got it. I really understood God’s story. I was excited…Every summer, I read through the entire Bible, taking in the stories, the prophecies and the truth.”

“…I wanted my kids to know it too. But I couldn’t find a curriculum that had my children actually studying the Bible and reading it too. I wanted them to really read Scripture – not just snippets of it. I found curriculums that taught theology, doctrine and worldview. I found synopses of the Bible. I found a curriculum with study questions for each verse, but nothing to guide the children into the history of the writers and the books.”

“I couldn’t find what I wanted…But the Bible is important to me…I can’t think of anything more important than having my children understand the whole of Scripture.”

So she wrote Bible Road Trip. And I’m glad she did.

What is Bible Road Trip?

It’s a 3 year Bible curriculum, written for 5 different learning levels and designed to work with any combination of levels. It’s a great resource for the entire family and even comes with a family copyright.

It’s designed to be flexible, so your family can study at the pace that works for you, and so you can focus on the activities that you like best.

The teacher’s guide offers an in depth explanation of how to get the most out of this curriculum. You’ll learn about the various learning levels included, and how to use each section to their fullest potential and to fit your needs.

It encourages personal responsibility for learning God’s Word yet also allows for plenty of  ways for you come along side your child as they learn.

Let’s look at the three major sections of the curriculum:

Dig Deep:

This is the most important part of the curriculum (says the author herself!). Even if you just did this part, it would be a very rich program.

In the Dig deep section, you’ll find assignments for “researching the Word”, which is where you’ll read selections from the suggested Bible resource,  and Reading the Word, which is just like it sounds; reading the actual Bible.

Depending on your child’s reading level, the reading can be independent or read-aloud, or even a mix of both.

I love what comes next; the discussion questions. These are designed to help the family further explore the text. They also help the student understand it more fully, and to relate the Bible to their personal lives.

Meditate on it:

Once you’ve read the Word and talked about what you’ve read, it’s time to hide it in your heart. In this section, you and your child will do the following activities:

  • Memorize the Word–following the syllabus and memorizing assigned verses.
  • Make a notebook about the Word–Using the beautiful note booking pages that Danika created to go along with this program.
  • Pray about the Word–through guided prayer prompts, selected readings, and journaling prompts.

Explore Further:

As if there isn’t enough already, this is where you’ll find suggestions for videos to watch, crafts to create, and other enhancement projects to further enjoy what you’re learning.

Beautifully integrated:

I love how the program moves the student from learning the Word, (Dig Deep)  to hiding it in their heart, (Meditate on it) to expressing what they’re learning (Explore Further). It’s a natural progression and it makes the learning complete, relevant, and memorable. (And they’ll be developing lots of other skills along the way, like language arts, art, and study skills that will transfer to the study of anything they choose.)

Excited? Great! I have good news for you.

For 4 days you can get the notebooking journals at half price!

I love the idea of notebooking as a way of learning, but I don’t really have time to scour the internet for free pages or to make my own. Danika has made some really nice pages that go right along with the Bible study. To me it’s a total win! Go right now and get yours on sale before you forget!
